Visa Cover Letter Generator
The cover letter is where your application speaks in sentences instead of forms. This generator writes it in the format your destination expects, and then shows you a checklist of the documents that should sit behind it. For a refusal reapplication, pick that visa type — the letter changes its whole approach.

What a visa cover letter has to do
A cover letter is the table of contents of your application, written as an argument. In about a page it answers the officer's four questions in order: Who are you? Why are you coming? How is it paid for? Why will you go home? If any of the four is missing or muddled, the officer has to reconstruct it from your documents — and their reconstruction may not favour you.
The standard format
- Your block. Full name as in the passport, address, and the date.
- The addressee. The consulate or officer of the destination — Schengen letters go to the consulate of the main destination country, not the first one you fly into, unless that is where you spend the most nights.
- Subject line. Visa type, your name, passport number if you give one, and the travel dates. Officers file by this line.
- Purpose paragraph. The trip in three or four sentences: what, where, when, with whom.
- Money paragraph. Who pays, from what income or savings, and which statements prove it.
- Ties paragraph. Your job, family, property, studies — the substance of your return.
- Documents line and close. A sentence noting the enclosed evidence, a polite request, and your signature.
Do
- Keep dates identical everywhere — letter, form, bookings, insurance. A two-day mismatch is the single most common self-inflicted wound.
- Write in your own plain English. Officers do not grade style; they grade credibility.
- For a family visit, name the host and your relationship; for business, name the host company and the event.
- Print and sign the letter. An unsigned cover letter looks like an afterthought, because it is one.
Don't
- Don't write an emotional appeal. Length and feeling do not move officers; documents do.
- Don't claim documents you are not enclosing — including insurance you have not bought yet. Buy it, then write the letter.
- Don't copy a sample letter from the internet with your name pasted in. Sample letters are the most-read documents in any consulate; yours will be recognised.
- Don't hide a previous refusal. It is in the system. The only workable strategy is the honest one: name it, then show the change.
Refusal reapplications, specifically
A reapplication letter is a different genre: it is not a fresh pitch, it is a point-by-point response. Quote each refusal reason, answer it with the new fact, and cite the new document that proves the fact. If nothing material has changed since the refusal, a new application with a better letter will almost certainly meet the same answer — change the facts first, then write.
Cover letter questions, answered
Do I actually need a cover letter for a visa application?
For Schengen visas it is a standard, expected document. For UK, US, Canadian and Australian visitor and student files it is not always on the official checklist, but a short, factual cover letter is the one place where you explain your case in your own order — purpose, money, ties, and any complication — before the officer forms their own version of it. Files with an oddity (a sponsor, a gap, a previous refusal) benefit the most.
How long should a visa cover letter be?
One page for a straightforward tourist or business trip; up to two pages for a student file or a refusal reapplication. Officers read quickly. Every paragraph should carry a fact, and every fact should match a document in the file.
What should I do differently if I was refused before?
Choose "Refusal reapplication" above and write the refusal reason exactly as the refusal letter stated it, then what has changed since — new evidence, corrected errors, a stronger financial position. Never argue with the earlier decision and never pretend it did not happen; ask plainly for a fresh look at updated facts.
Should the cover letter mention my bank balance?
Mention the source and shape of your funding — salary and savings, a sponsor, an employer — and that statements are enclosed. Precise balances belong in the statements themselves; the letter summarises, the documents prove.
Can I use the same letter for two different embassies?
No. Schengen letters go to the consulate of your main destination, UK letters to an Entry Clearance Officer, Canadian letters read differently again. Generate a fresh letter per application with the destination set correctly.
